India expects 5th straight record wheat crop - U.S. attache

Following are selected highlights from a report issued by a U.S. Department of Agriculture attache in India: 'India expects a fifth record wheat crop in a row, 87.5 million tonnes, on higher planted area and optimal growing conditions in major growing areas to date. MY 2012/13 wheat exports are forecast at 1.5 million tonnes. MY 2012/13 rice production is forecast at 100 million tonnes, marginally lower than the year .....

We’ll keep buying Indian basmati: Kheer Allah Hassan Babkr Iraq's Trade Minister

Iraq is aggressively looking at India to cooperate and participate in the West Asian country’s reconstruction programme. As for importing basmati rice from India, which has apparently irked the US, Iraq’s trade minister Kheer Allah Hassan Babkr tells Nayanima Basu that his country will continue to buy the rice from India. U.S. import projection for FY 2012 raised

The USDA reported in the release of their Outlook for U.S. Agriculture Trade update, that due largely to the 19-percent surge in the volume of U.S. agricultural imports from October to December 2011, the import projection for fiscal 2012 is raised to $106.5 billion. This represents a 13-percent increase from 2011 and a $1 billion gain from November’s forecast of $105.5 billion. The 21-percent bump in U.S. import value for agricultural .....

Iran Looks to Buy Wheat From India

With western sanctions hitting supply from the U.S and Europe, Iran may buy up to 3 million metric tons of wheat from India through private deals, industry officials said Tuesday. Once the two countries are able to find a way to get around restrictions on payment due to the sanctions, this deal could potentially open doors for the export of other food items to Iran, they said.
